Dentures vs. Dental Implants
Any Dentist will tell you that dentures do not provide the
functional stimulation to your jaw bone like your natural
tooth or a dental implant would, so it can not only weaken
the bone and cause your gums to recede, but you would also
have to deal with slippage, adhesives and possibly misplacing
them. Fixed bridges involve reducing the two adjacent teeth
of the missing tooth to be fitted with a dental crown so they
can act as anchors for the replacement tooth. If these two
teeth are healthy, you do not want to sacrifice their health
for a bridge.
If you are in good general health, have adequate jaw bone and have healthy gums, you are an ideal candidate for dental implants. The dental implant procedure involves the placement of a small prosthetic post into the bone of the jaw (done in one of our dentist\'s offices). It acts as an artificial tooth root as the gum tissue and surrounding bone cells heal around it. This process is called osseointegration. The dental implant replacement tooth is then attached to the new artificial root. The dental implant will look, feel and function like your natural tooth. With proper oral home care and regular dental visits, your dental implant can last you a lifetime.
Dental implants are a serious matter and should not be taken lightly. If you want your dental implant to be done right, be sure to get it done by a dentist with plenty of experience in dental implants. Below is a list of dentists who offer dental implants in a city near you:
